Letter to the editor: Capitalism vs. socialism

The USA was founded as a democratic republic based on the Bill of Rights, personal freedoms, limited government and Judeo-Christian principles, but certainly not the hate speech, violence, lies and secularism so prevalent by today’s politicians, protesters, letter-writers and media talking heads.

How well have our capitalist, small government policies worked over the last 249 years? Has the human condition improved more in our unique democracy than in more autocratic, more socialistic, more secular countries like Cuba, Venezuela, North Korea or China?

Socialism, with its “what’s in it for me “ attitude, is a much easier sell to liberal voters than the capitalist message that “if you get an equal opportunity and work hard, you can achieve success and contribute to society and your neighbor.”

Many loyal lifetime Democrats willingly accept mainstream media opinions as facts instead of determining which policies are best for our country. This explains why the Democratic Party of today is nothing like the Democratic Party of Jack Kennedy. We need more Joe Manchins, Tulsi Gabbards, John Fettermans and Bobby Kennedys, and fewer “Squad” members and Zohran Mamdanis, in order to shed light on the facts, and not just to reach for political power.
