I’m writing to call attention to the fact that shortly before the new year, Allegheny County received much-needed federal funding — $520,000 — to help make the streets in our county safer for pedestrians.

We’re coming off our deadliest traffic year in nearly two decades, so this funding couldn’t be more timely and important.

An urgent problem like this required more than just a local and state effort. We needed help on the federal level — and Sen. Bob Casey came through. He was instrumental in helping pass the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act, which is providing funding to help our county make essential infrastructure and policy changes to reduce traffic fatalities. He then helped make sure Allegheny County got our fair share of this desperately needed funding.

As a state representative serving our community in Harrisburg, I know how hard it is to get funding and projects like this across the finish line. That’s why I’m thankful we have an effective leader like Casey representing us in Washington. He’s not only delivering for Allegheny County, but all of Pennsylvania.

Rep. Nick Pisciottano
