I moved to Plum several years ago with the hopes of sending my kids to quality schools. My son just started kindergarten this year, and I fear for his future if we don’t see changes on the school board.
First, I find it hard to understand how a board can be made up of so few parents with kids in the schools. I will give credit where credit is due, and, given where we were financially a few years ago, this board has come a long way to keep us out of debt and with a balanced budget.
Keep in mind, though, that Steve Schlauch and Sue Caldwell, who are both up for re-election, voted last year’s budget down. Had this budget not passed, we could have been in the same situation as Penn Hills. I find it funny how Schlauch boasts about where we are today and likes to take credit. He says he is a proven leader. Did he not lose the president position in December?
No one likes to see a tax increase, and, with this being an election year, I don’t think we will see one. However, I do believe we will be looking at another raise at or above the max net year so that these current members running can proclaim that they didn’t raise taxes this year.
We need to get the right people on the board to do what’s right for our students and our community
