Letter to the editor: Choose happiness and kindness

Tribune-Review

If a child asked you, should I be happy or sad, kind or mean, the answers are easy: happy and kind. But for some people, something happens that causes them to choose to be sad and mean.

It is tragic that our supposed leaders do not govern but rather spend their time dividing through juvenile tactics like personal attacks and name calling.

We often can agree on our problems but not the solutions. We have allowed politics and party and those sowing divisiveness to cloud our minds. If we cannot get back to selfless service of country, of one another, we will continue to devolve, and our external enemies will watch as we tear ourselves apart.

Would you help someone in need if you don’t like their politics? If you were in a foxhole together, would their religion, color or sexual orientation matter? Most of us are trying to get through this life, to enjoy personal achievement, to see our children thrive and have opportunities to be happy. I pray that the selfish and divisive who are looking to control others will realize the error of their ways, and that those who will not will be diminished so that they do not harm others.

Controllers and repressors are not happy people. Why should it bother us how our neighbors live their lives if they are not harming others? Isn’t it better to just raise your family the way you believe is right? Live and teach by example and let that be enough. If it is right for others, they will do the same.
