Letter to the editor: Choose unity and tolerance
On Oct. 7, evil came. Hamas terrorists butchered hundreds of innocent civilians in Israel. Thirty-one lost were Americans.
Evil done for evil’s sake. Brought on by the ideology Jewish people shall not exist and no land shall be theirs. The definition of intolerance.
Babies were murdered in their beds. Babies. In their beds. We must not look away or stay silent.
Many remember what they felt on 9/11. Evil acted on our land. We did not look away. We spoke. We were united.
Today, unity is lacking on a macro scale. It’s lacking in many institutions.
Seeing college campuses support this evil is both maddening and heartbreaking. Isolated, one-sided information in academia undoubtedly has poisoned minds.
Seeing Democratic Socialists of America support the attacks brings outrage. The Times Square demonstration in New York from these socialists included Americans displaying Nazi symbols. We are taught “never again” and “never forget.” We must teach the same to future generations.
When information is one-sided, intolerance grows.
We do not lack unity. We are Americans. We are exceptional. We are generous, tolerant and benevolent. We share fundamental values, and this community proves that each and every day. We must remain indivisible.
Division is a weapon and a salesman. Division creates animosity. It chooses sides. It lies for its own sake. Left to its devices, it conquers. Don’t let it. Choose unity. Choose tolerance. Choose conversation. Be comforted knowing how much you have in common with your neighbor.
We, the people. Out of many, one. E pluribus unum.
God bless America. God bless Israel.
