Buffeted by a global pandemic, political partisanship and dismay with government gridlock, what can a grandmother do to address the ticking time bomb of climate change? Harkening back to the article “Western Pa. lawmakers fight Gov. Wolf on Regional Greenhouse Gas Initiative” (Nov. 19, TribLIVE), I reviewed supportive information from PennEnvironment and opposing views described in a transcript of February public testimony before the Pennsylvania House Environmental Resources and Energy Committee.

Trying to put myself in their shoes, I could see how committee members and representatives of power generators, unions, manufacturers, and business could have deep concerns about potential impacts of a commitment to RGGI.

There were comments about Wolf’s membership in the U.S. Climate Alliance and associated energy goals, but no mention of the governor’s Climate Action Plan. This plan presents 19 strategies supported by 100 actions all citizens can take to achieve a sustainable, clean energy future. RGGI membership provides vital support to reach our plan’s emission reduction targets. We have the tools — we just need the political will.

Please join me in encouraging our state senators and representatives to support Wolf’s executive order to bring Pennsylvania into the Regional Greenhouse Gas Initiative.
