Sen. Daniel Patrick Moynihan of New York said that “You are entitled to your opinion. But you are not entitled to your own facts.”

The writer of the letter “Harris’ climate plans a scam?” (Sept. 14, TribLive) cites several “facts” to bolster his opinion that are flagrantly false.

For example, sea levels around the world are rising, and scientists agree on this. The experiment he proposes — melting an ice cube in a glass of water to see if the water level rises — only shows what happens when sea ice melts. To show what happens when land ice melts, you need to add fresh water to an already full glass — and it will overflow. Melted land ice from Greenland and Antarctica is already causing sea levels to rise, and this could rise to catastrophic levels if we don’t reduce emissions.

Before you vote, check the facts. The idea that climate change is a hoax and the Green New Deal is a scam simply doesn’t hold water.
