Letter to the editor: Close borders, open schools, etc.

Tribune-Review

Our lawmakers have evolved into adjudicators. For instance, Sen. Patrick Leahy transmogrified into a Supreme Court justice. (And they say miracles don’t happen!)

Since I took an oath to defend the Constitution of the United States, I took time to read it. Article II, Section 3, states that the president, vice president and all civil officers of the United States shall be removed from office on impeachment for, and conviction of, treason, bribery or other high crimes and misdemeanors.

The gist of Article II, Section 4 deals with removal from office. Unfortunately, Donald J. Trump is no longer in office. Therefore, the entire issue of impeachment for removal was a non sequitur. How do you remove one from an office not held? More Democratic legerdemain.

I, the majority of Republicans, many independents and some enlightened Democrats believe in the following: closed borders, open pipelines, open schools, efficient inoculations and an open economy. It appears these factors are diametrically opposed by the president and his advisers and android followers.

Before the entire economy is decimated, some Democrat should rouse the president. Any policy-maker with a modicum of intelligence would not: open our borders to uninoculated migrants; close a major oil pipeline project without a viable energy alternative; keep schools closed to the detriment of students and parents; impede coronavirus vaccine inoculations (Trump’s Operation Warp Speed effort expedited the development of effective vaccines, and the distribution appears mired); and keep the economy shuttered (Florida and Texas have experienced a successful resurgence — induce the other states to follow suit).
