Letter to the editor: Clowns come to town ahead of the Trump circus
The circus is not even in town yet, and the show has already begun.
The last piece of legislative business for the House of Representatives of the 118th Congress is to fund the government. On Sept. 25, the Senate and the House voted to pass the bipartisan continuing resolution HR 9747 to avoid a government shutdown. This kicked the can down the road to Dec. 20.
Two days before the new deadline, the House had a bipartisan bill ready to fund the government. Then the upcoming clown show appeared. President-in-the-shadows Elon Musk pulled the strings on his puppet, Donald Trump, and tanked the bill. The next day, House Speaker Mike Johnson readied a Plan B. Plan B failed.
And so, boys and girls, the circus is coming to town, but the clown show arrived early. Get a big supply of popcorn ready — it’s going to be a long four years.
