Letter to the editor: Commissioners made right decision on ballot curing
Regarding the article “Westmoreland commissioners decline to consider ballot curing for November election” (Sept. 11, TribLive): Why should “mail-in voters” get a “re-do” when they make a mistake on their ballot? They have the ballot for what, at least 24 hours before they can send it back? And up to what, four weeks or longer? They should have by then figured everything out, or they could have asked for help from someone, or as some do, or have someone else fill it out for them (as some rumors suggest).
When these voters did their finals in high school, they were not allowed to go back and have a “re-do” because they forgot or missed something. Why would voting now be any different?
When I or anyone else goes to the polls, once we leave the voting booth, we are not allowed to go back and change anything. Why should “mail-in voters” have special treatment that we will not get? Could you imagine what problems that would create for the county if we we’re allowed to go back and change anything after we voted, say a few days down the road, after everything is counted?
I say the two Republican commissioners made the right choice
