Letter to the editor: Commissioners should give back pay raises
Regarding the letter “Westmoreland’s many issues” (March 21, TribLive): I agree that our county has many issues needing attention and that our current commissioners have not been doing their jobs to effect positive change and growth in Westmoreland County.
I believe what Frank Herbert said about government is true: “All governments suffer a recurring problem: Power attracts pathological personalities. It is not that power corrupts but that it is magnetic to the corruptible.”
For our commissioners to show that they care and are in tune with the citizens of Westmoreland County, they should immediately take steps to rescind the automatic pay raises they receive. First, show us you deserve a raise through proper stewardship of tax revenue. An all-at-once 32.5% property tax increase is not good governance.
Commissioners, you should have seen the writing on the wall years ago.
John Ventre, keep running, and I’ll keep voting for you.
