I am greatly concerned about what is happening to the U.S. Postal Service, as I am a prior postmaster relief and I worked in one of the main distribution centers. At that time, the post office received and distributed your basic mail, and we were also responsible for large volumes of packages.

Compare this to today, where delivery services now deliver most packages — and there is the captivation of modern-day “tech” devices. Very few letters and cards are being mailed, as all you have to do is email, text, “FaceTime,” etc.

This is a sign of the times, and this competition greatly impacted the U.S. Postal Service, not only in reducing the number of employees needed but also the financial aspects. If this trend continues, there very well could come a day when there will be no need for the Postal Service at all.

Competition has good and bad effects; competition is needed to help keep prices down, and it can create new businesses. Unfortunately in the process, some businesses get lost or become outdated.
