Rep. Guy Reschenthaler often uses the term “condemning” when referring to liberal Democrats. Now I am condemning Reschenthaler for his refusal to accept the results of the November presidential election and serving as an enabler for former President Trump to deny his loss.

Reschenthaler and seven of his fellow Republican congressional representatives from Pennsylvania conspired for weeks to reject the legal votes of millions of residents of our state. They planned to object to awarding our Electoral College votes to Joe Biden and Kamala Harris during a joint session of Congress Jan. 6.

That morning, the resident of the White House incited a crowd of supporters to march on the Capitol to fight against the election loss he refused to accept. Also that morning, Reschenthaler posted a message on social media praising Trump as “the BEST President since Lincoln.” Moments later, the Capitol was overrun by a deadly mob of seditionists. The congressman later posted a comment that the violence was “unacceptable.” I find his tepid response to be unacceptable.

When Congress reconvened later that night, I hoped our delegation would withdraw their objection. But they insisted on continuing their political stunt, gaining nothing.

Reschenthaler is a law school graduate. Having a lawyer engage in such activity prompts me to question his fitness to serve in Congress. Reschenthaler took an oath to serve and protect the Constitution, not the president. Why was he continuing to defend the man? Was it out of fear or fealty?
