In her letter “We must address our gun violence problem” (Feb. 8, TribLIVE), Edgewood Council member Bhavini Patel stated, “We must recognize the historical disinvestment in communities of color and low-income neighborhoods. We must respond with investments to support after-school programs, job training, educational opportunities, homeownership programs and more.”
During the 1920s, my grandparents raised my mother and father, as well as all my aunts and uncles, in the south side boroughs of the city.
It’s so sad that, a century later, Patel believes communities of color are composed of individuals unable to raise families without after-school programs, job training, educational opportunities, homeownership programs and more.
Even sadder is that Patel is elected despite such a condescending attitude toward so many voters.
Of course, the violence definitely is not due to the use of criminal proceeds to supplement dependency on the proceeds of government programs in communities of color and low-income neighborhoods.
