U.S. Rep. Conor Lamb made a commitment during his campaign to support animal protection legislation if elected to the House of Representatives. This earned him the support of the Humane Society Legislative Fund and animal protection advocates throughout the district. In his first six months in Congress, Lamb made good on his promise.

Lamb is currently a co-sponsor of the Preventing Animal Cruelty and Torture Act (House Resolution 724), which would complement state cruelty laws and provide an additional enforcement tool against extreme cruelty on federal property or in commerce such as wildlife trafficking.

He is also a co-sponsor of the Prevent All Soring Tactics Act (House Resolution 693), which would rein in the cruel practice of “soring,” in which trainers deliberately inflict pain on the hooves and legs of Tennessee Walking Horses using chemicals, chains and sharp objects. This legislation would amend the Horse Protection Act to end the failed system of industry self-policing, strengthen penalties and make other reforms to finally end this torture.

Constituents in Pennsylvania’s 17th District who care about animals should applaud Lamb for his continued leadership on these issues.
