Letter to the editor: Conservatives call each other out

I believe the Pennsylvania GOP and the Commonwealth Partners Chamber of Entrepreneurs have developed a strategy to stand against all MAGA candidates. Matthew Brouillette, founder and CEO of Commonwealth Partners, can hardly contain himself with his disdain for Donald Trump, Doug Mastriano, Joe Gale and any MAGA candidate (“Pa. primary unveiled a crisis for both political parties,” May 22, TribLIVE).

He gloated over the more experienced Supreme and Appellate Court Republicans losing to controllable, less experienced Republican candidates. Of course, his group throws millions at controllable candidates when they oppose Trump-like candidates.

Recent Commonwealth Court candidate Josh Prince sent a letter of concern to the Pennsylvania GOP chair. I saw this when I campaigned for governor two years ago. Committees had no interest in what I had to say, but patriot groups loved me; they just loved Mastriano more. A state representative in Lancaster told us the Republican state representatives cheered when Trump lost his lead on day three of the presidential election. 2024 should be interesting.

I believe this is the reason Westmoreland County Republican Committee Chair Bill Bretz opposed in the county commissioner race. Did Bretz get his marching orders from Harrisburg? In Westmoreland, Washington, Armstrong, Fayette and Montgomery counties, where a MAGA candidate ran for commissioner, they lost.

What’s the difference between Ds and Rs? Dems will stick together and vote for anyone; John Fetterman, AOC, Summer Lee, Joe Biden, etc. Conservatives stick to their values and call each other out. That may be changing now where the “R” powers to be want us “silenced not praised” for speaking the truth.
