Letter to the editor: Conservatives persecuted on college campuses

I was encouraged to see the article “Few Americans say conservatives can speak freely on college campuses, poll shows” (Oct. 2, TribLIVE). However, when I opened the story, my excitement quickly abated as I saw that the source is the Associated Press.

Even when the AP and its local surrogates pretend to be unbiased, it’s hard to believe.

It seems to me the Trib had this as a “top story” for less than a day, and then it was buried, whereas controversial stories about non-liberals, like the recent one about a Riley Gaines speaking event at Penn State, remain visible for days.

The article ignores the root causes of the persecution conservatives suffer on college campuses. It never mentions left-wing fascist groups (like the contradictorily named antifa) behind the intimidation tactics meant to scare universities into canceling speakers, which happened earlier this year when some protesters turned to violent tactics to stop a discussion on transgenderism at the University of Pittsburgh. None of the actors involved were arrested, reprimanded or expelled.

The article states that students in college classes are allowed to express their opinions, which is obvious since that is spontaneous and attacks against them can’t be organized. The article fails to mention the thousands of reported micro-aggressions by left-wing professors and groups directed at conservative students and speakers, or the firing of moderate and conservative professors who don’t toe the liberal line.
