Regarding the letter “Seek out truth about Israel” (Oct. 26, TribLIVE): The “left” has no monopoly on extremists, as evidenced by the extreme “right’s” shameful clown show that stopped all progress in the House for three weeks, at a very critical time.

One can support Israel and its retribution following a horrific terrorist attack (and there was no downplay of the horror by CNN or MSNBC ), despise Hamas and Hezbollah and yet still feel compassion for the suffering of the Palestinian people.

What our country truly needs is to get rid of the extremes of both parties and get back to moderation. This country was built on compromise and working together for the common good. Chaos politics and vengeance accomplish nothing.

The party of law and order also needs to agree that the law and court decisions apply to everyone, whether it be a Biden or a Trump. No one is above the law; once the rule of law is threatened, we will have become no better than a banana Republic, and democracy itself could become a dim memory.

Moderation and compromise are the key to governing this country.
