Letter to the editor: County tax hike hurting ordinary citizens

Tribune-Review

I agree with the letter “Westmoreland County taxes could have been raised gradually” (April 21, TribLive) concerning the 32.5% raise in our property taxes.

My township tax went up the first half of this year by $175.94. Maybe this doesn’t seem like much, but it is when your income isn’t much over $20,000 a year and you’re concerned to see how much your school tax will increase, and if you’ll be able to afford to keep your home and still pay your other bills.

I am elderly and ill and just trying to make ends meet each month. It is hard enough just to pay for heating, food and other basic needs. These politicians have no thoughts for the ordinary person just trying to live day by day.
