Letter to the editor: Covid-19 and the Catholic Church

Tribune-Review

Covid-19 has become a whipping boy for all ills associated with the failure of ecclesiastics and hierarchs to protect the Catholic Church. Effeminacy has resulted in inept management and cowardly responses to its festering systemic problems.

On March 28, the Pittsburgh Diocese capitulated to the civil authorities, thereby abandoning the autonomy of the church to do that which the church does. That capitulation both denigrated and explicitly denied the sovereign rights of Christ the King.

The article “Pittsburgh Diocese eliminating positions, moving offices as it struggles with financial impact of covid-19” July 8, TribLIVE) states that the diocese said the pandemic exacerbated a long-term decline in Mass attendance and donations. Such chutzpah! This implies that closing parishes, the inability to fill the priestly ranks, clericalism, the concealment of homosexuality/pederasty and the failure to teach the truth are just ancillary reasons for the decline of the church.

When the church feeds at the government’s trough, the church becomes indebted to the government. Do not be misled — money is fungible; therefore, it can be said, regardless of source, all monies collected are potential sources for any expenditures.

If Bishop David Zubik sincerely believes that covid-19 has dramatically changed his life, it appears that he is enamored of Dr. Anthony Fauci-thought and seemingly has abandoned his professed theology. The Psalm says, “his bishopric let another take.”
