Letter to the editor: Covid-19 & overpopulation

Tribune-Review

All the Earth’s environmental problems are a direct result of overpopulation. Any other consideration is a result of, and not in addition to, overpopulation.

Overpopulation results in polluted water, air pollution, deforestation, rising crime rates, loss of wildlife leading to mass extinctions, widespread food shortages, vanishing fish in the oceans, regional conflicts and war, and proliferation of infectious diseases, super bugs and airborne diseases, along with diminishing capacity to treat them, and overwhelmed hospitals.

Overpopulation and the “drill, baby, drill” fossil-fuel mentality are not sustainable. Any and all methods of population suppression must be on the table or we are all doomed. Religious zealots must rethink their foolish ideology that prohibits this necessary task.

After the Arctic becomes ice-free and Greenland becomes green land, will the oil barons begin to “drill, baby, drill” the north? As we continue to shelter in place this summer, we may watch the northern hemisphere forests burn the same as the southern hemisphere’s Amazon and Australia did.

Hey, there’s another brainy idea afoot. Let’s steal another trillion dollars from our grandkids and throw it at the wall. Maybe it will stick and help stimulate the economy and help to reelect President Trump. It won’t. Sen. Chuck Schumer had it spot on. Your and SCOTUS’s reproductive decisions will reap the whirlwind.

Maybe it’s already too late? You woke the devil in the form of covid-19 type germs that originate in overpopulated countries.
