Letter to the editor: Covid-19 & Trump doctrine

Tribune-Review

The Democrats and liberal media excoriate President Trump for his unyielding commitment to strong borders, one tenet of the “Trump doctrine.” They seem to hate that the president, well, puts America first. For most liberals, Trump’s “America First” doctrine is racist, xenophobic and wrong.

Obviously, secure borders help keep terrorists and other America-haters out of our country. However, borders also prevent disease-ridden foreigners from entering our country and infecting millions of innocent Americans. When our ancestors came to America (legally), they were screened, tested for contagious diseases and quarantined. Gee, doesn’t that sound prudent these days? It wasn’t racist then, and it isn’t racist today. It’s called smart.

Trump restricted travel from China in January. The left, still focused on impeachment, became unhinged, calling Trump a racist and a xenophobe. Then, in February, Nancy Pelosi partied in San Francisco’s Chinatown, hugging vendors and encouraging citizens to visit. She wanted to demonstrate that “it is very safe to be in Chinatown.” Today, those same liberals are blaming Trump for failure to act.

Recognizing its problem, China shut down Wuhan province to protect the rest of the country. Yet China allowed unfettered international travel, infecting millions throughout the rest of the world. Now, this is killing tens of thousands of Americans. That’s an act of war. Where is the liberal and media outcry? The hypocrisy is sickening.

Most Americans already recognized the importance of putting America first. Nothing, however, is validating the Trump doctrine more than the current covid-19 pandemic. Sorry, liberals!
