As a former medical readiness officer who advised three chairmen of the Joint Chiefs of Staff and the secretary of Defense at the Pentagon on biological, chemical and nuclear warfare during 9/11, I once made the same decision as our Coast Guard on sequestering a ship transporting infected passengers.

To further protect our people and stem the spread of this virus, we need to fully support the Coast Guard’s directive requiring all cruise ships to prepare to treat any sick passengers and crew on board while being sequestered “indefinitely” offshore during the coronavirus pandemic.
