Are more fatalities on the way? The Dollar General Corp. is seriously working toward building a store at the corner of Route 66/Main Street and Ross Avenue in Ford City, Manor Township, Armstrong County. To begin with, this is a residential neighborhood. Our No. 1 concern of this area is safety. This intersection is a dangerous high-traffic area. It not only impacts our neighborhood but untold numbers of vehicles from surrounding cities and counties.

This is a winding road. However, it is particularly dangerous coming north on Route 66; when you get near this intersection, you drive up over a hill where there are roads adjoining that are almost invisible, plus driveways and a very busy (not just on Sundays) church parking lot right over the crest of the hill.

Over the years, there have been accidents with serious injuries and fatalities on this stretch of road. LifeFlight has had to be called to the scene multiple times. Far too often, cars and trucks of all sizes have to climb the embankment to avoid collisions.

Todd Vasos, CEO of Dollar General, has been notified of the concerns of the residents here. He referred our letter to an attorney. Once again, a big corporation is ready to shove the little people aside and not consider the safety or concerns of the neighborhood, its residents and so many others. The almighty dollar profit is more important than human beings. Contact us if you wish to sign our petition.
