Regarding the article “Deer Lakes School District parents encourage school board to defy state mask mandate” (Sept. 18, TribLIVE): I believe the parents were absolutely correct stating that the virus is not going anywhere, and masks do cause harm to your health. The label on a mask box indicates that they do not prevent the spread of viruses. I haven’t seen any peer review studies or reports indicating wearing masks prevents the spread of the virus. Someone needs to do their homework, and it isn’t the parents.

This lack of leadership is appalling and disrespectful to the concerned parents. By encouraging parents to run for school board to make a change suggests someone else can deal with this issue because the current board won’t.

The governor’s tyrannical tactics are holding the district ransom with threats of job loss and decertification. District residents are the ones who pay the bills, and parents should decide what is best for the students and continue to fight back. Mask wearing should be an option for students and everyone working at or visiting the schools.

To those employed by or elected to sit on boards for the district, you need to step down for your lack of leadership and lack of concern for the students and parents.
