Letter to the editor: Pa. deer season change is a mistake

Well, the Pennsylvania Game Commission has listened to sports people again. We will start rifle deer season the Saturday after Thanksgiving (“Saturday start to 2019 deer hunting season might not be permanent,” April 30, TribLIVE). They say they talked to hunters, but people I talk to say nobody ever talks to them or anybody they know.

Now the big increase in antlerless license. They will tell you that people sit on them to help the deer herd. Well, I guess so; they do not seem to be doing a good job at it. They say the deer herd is in the best shape ever, more deer than before. Who are they kidding?

I am a senior hunter and get out in the woods in northcentral Pennsylvania. If I am lucky, I may see one or several deer a day, and that’s all-day hunting. The next day I may see nothing. So where are the deer hiding? The commissioners can’t tell you.

They just decide to do what they want and do not care what sports people want. Soon, with chronic wasting disease and other parasites, we will not have any of our state animal left alive. We will have to look at pictures.

Wake up, game commission.
