Since the completion of his 2020 election loss, Donald Trump and his enablers continue to spread the “big lie” that the election was rigged and that there was voter fraud, despite a lack of any evidence. Spreading such falsehoods will lead to the death of democracy by a thousand cuts.

A case in point is the latest wounding of democracy by state Sen. Doug Mastriano. Mastriano sent letters to Philadelphia, York and Tioga counties seeking election equipment and related materials. Since, according to The New York Times, President Biden won Philadelphia and Trump won Tioga and York counties, it is unclear what the outcome of the sham audit will be. Especially since a post-election analysis was carried out as required by law.

In addition, a risk-limiting audit was carried out in 63 out of 67 counties, according to VotesPA.com. Perhaps the reason is to be found in Mastriano’s additional statement to One America News Network, stating that a second round with additional counties may be required.

Mastriano is an example of a circular argument. Shout and scream about voter fraud very loud and very often. When the desired part of the electorate starts to believe the “big lie,” stand before the cult of believers with a serious and concerned look when saying, “We need to ensure that there can be confidence in our elections.”

So noble to fix a problem that you helped to create.
