Letter to the editor: Democratic candidates

Considering the New Jersey Democratic Party once allowed a last-minute substitution on its 2002 Senate ballot because Robert Torricelli was involved in an ethics scandal and trailing badly to Republican Douglas Forrester, does anyone not believe that the Democratic National Committee will attempt the same malarkey due to grave concerns about Joe Biden’s mental acuity?

In my opinion, the Democrats do not have a candidate who can legitimately challenge President Trump, which is why all their future presidential hopefuls have dropped out. Biden may already suffer cognitive issues, so if he is declared mentally incompetent, does it open the door for two-time loser Hillary Clinton or New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo, whose state has — alarmingly or expectedly, depending on your political viewpoint — suffered a nation-leading net loss of 1.4 million residents to other states during his tenure?
