Letter to the editor: Democrats' ads disrespectful during crisis
With the world gripped in fear of covid-19, can the liberal super PACs take a break from their TV ad blitz attacking President Trump as he tries to guide us through the crisis?
In one ad, a “truck driver” claims “In 2016, I voted for Donald Trump” but now tells us “he’s changed his mind and won’t vote for him again.” According to a New York Times article, an investigation found the “trucker, Steve” didn’t even vote in 2016, so the primary claim in the ad is bogus.
I’ll use creative license here: Mr. Trucker claims his house smells bad and it’s Trump’s fault that he can’t afford an air freshener because “Trump only cares about himself” and” making money” etc. For the record, Trump businesses have lost money since he assumed office.
In another ad “Grandma Zoppi” (more creative license) peddles the bogus claim that “Trump wants to cut $700 billion, with a ‘B’!, from Medicaid.”
When people tell me they “vote Democrat,” I write them off as having a low IQ. If that’s my “showing a lack of respect for others’ views,” then how much “respect” are Democratic campaigns showing for their own voters’ IQ with these ads with no basis in fact?
How helpful is it to the country in the grip of a deadly virus scare to force-feed us these cartoon “testimonials” attacking the president at a time when national unity is needed?
Grandma Zoppi mentions the lack of “empathy in [Trump’s] decisions.” Democrats should show a little “empathy” themselves for their fellow Americans in this difficult time.
