Letter to the editor: Democrats and democracy

Democratic politicians and their left-wing media acolytes tell us if Donald Trump is elected in November, it will be the end of our democracy. Apparently, they believe secure borders, low inflation, enforcing laws against crime and promoting voter ID laws are somehow ruinous to “democracy.”

But they have no compunction against their own use of dictatorial executive orders to destroy Republican policies. Democrats imposed vaccine mandates, including firing health care workers and military personnel who refused the shot. They forced closure of schools and restaurants. They now provide many free benefits to illegal immigrants. How do those policies promote American democracy?

Democrats want to tell us what kind of vehicles we can drive and how to heat our homes and cook, all with what I see as zero scientific evidence that the elimination of fossil fuels will make any change in the level of atmospheric CO2. Is that how democracy works?

Democrats fight to stop efforts to require voter ID while some promote allowing illegal immigrants to vote in local elections. Biden admonishes us to “pay our fair share.” But his own son failed to pay federal taxes in 2017 and 2019 on income paid by foreign entities to the family business. He had a big Democratic donor pay some $1.5 million in back taxes for him … can you do that?

They spend millions trying to force Trump off the ballot and stop third-party ballot initiatives, all while claiming Republicans are running some phony “election interference” campaign.

So, when you vote, think about who the real threats to democracy are.
