Letter to the editor: Dems’ inquisition

I wanted to recognize Democratic Sens. Mazie Hirono of Hawaii and Kamala Harris of California for their upright, dignified and scrutinizingly scrupulous inquisition of Brian Buescher earlier this month amid his confirmation process for U.S. District Court.

After hours of prudent investigation, our hyper-tolerant heroines discovered ties between Buescher and a nefarious, dastardly and secretive “all-male society” that opposes abortion rights and same-sex marriage. Yes, dear reader, I, too, was terrified to learn that such evil walks among us, but fear no longer: Its existence has been brought to the light!

I, of course, am talking about the Knights of Columbus. Yes, that charitable organization, which donates $185 million to the needy each year, is a wicked front for bigotry and intolerance.

Thankfully, the senators inquisitioned Buescher: “Were you aware that the Knights of Columbus opposed a woman’s right to choose when you joined the organization?” and “If confirmed, do you intend to end your membership with this organization to avoid any appearance of bias?”

If only they had asked: “Will you end your affiliation with the Catholic Church to avoid any conflict of conscience?”

Thanks to you, senators, I am a proud member of the tolerant Democratic Party.
