Letter to the editor: Denying the truth

Tribune-Review

The current White House occupant just lived up to his TACO nickname. He backed down on China tariffs and lowered expectations about his meeting with Putin. This is not to mention his refusal to allow the Justice Department to release the Epstein file after using the promise to do so to win reelection.

Clearly, our country’s weakened negotiating position is due to this president’s economic and other policies. Since this administration took office, the dollar is down 8% and inflation is up, as is unemployment notwithstanding TACO firing the Labor Department statistician.

As George Orwell put it: “However much you deny the truth, the truth goes on existing, as it were, behind your back.” Here’s truth denial in service of deflection from the poor economy he created. This president federalized the D.C. police force claiming crime is hellish there despite an actual decrease. Hey, just fire the statisticians. Keep in mind, however: “For the wrath of God is revealed from heaven against all ungodliness and unrighteousness of men, who by their unrighteousness suppress the truth.” (Romans 1:18).

There are consequences beyond the control of earthly powers for denying the truth to advance selfish ends. Unfortunately, higher prices have yet to kick in. This administration’s cruel deportation policy is hurting farmers who depend on immigrants as a labor pool. I believe this will result in a sharp increase in food prices. We the People won’t have to concern ourselves with tariffs increasing prices of durable goods. We won’t be able to afford them after paying for food.
