Letter to the editor: Dickinson has progressive vision for 18th District

Tribune-Review

Pennsylvania’s 18th District voters face a choice to reelect a career politician, an inexperienced millennial or Jerry Dickinson.

Dickinson is a man with political ambition who brings a balance of academic credentials, real-world experience and progressive ideas. Constructive and positive change will be realized if voters in the district decide to embrace a young man’s progressive ideas for government.

Lack of a progressive vision is holding back the rust belt district.

By mail or at the polls on June 2, voters in the district have a real progressive congressional candidate in Dickinson, who pledges to “move the needle.” He’s a welcome fresh departure from the stale old business-as- usual politics of rank-and-file union Democrats who defiantly continue to squash progressive ideas to maintain power. Ward chairs have continued to put Mike Doyle on the party’s slate card for the last 26 years to the chagrin of many.

This may be the year Doyle faces electoral defeat. What he hasn’t done in 26 years, don’t expect he will in the next two years. Dickinson promises to deliver.

A progressive idea promoted by Dickinson is using community land trusts to fund new housing stock.

Progressive-minded voters must seriously consider a vote in favor of the welcome change Dickinson will usher in for the 18th District and the next session of Congress.
