Letter to the editor: Did we really vote for this?

Tribune-Review

I had started this letter with a plea that we need to stop the culture wars, that those in power are fanning the flames of hate and division among the working class so they can get rich off of our backs.

But instead of continuing that thread of thought, I got a week of news that is so like Orwell’s “1984” that I had to take a step back and process it. In no particular order:

• Department of Justice removing a study from its website that shows right-wing violence is the prevalent domestic terrorism.

• President Trump suing the New York Times for endorsing Kamala Harris, a practice by newspapers since 1860.

• Trump threatening an Australian reporter for damaging relations between our countries just for asking about the billions of dollars Trump has made since taking office.

• JD Vance and Kash Patel swearing to go after anyone who posts negatively about Charlie Kirk.

• Not one Republican politician that I know of mentioning the violence against Rep. Melissa Hortman or Gov. Josh Shapiro while discussing the horrible assassination of Kirk.

• A Fox News host saying homeless people should get involuntary lethal injections.

• Economists telling us to brace for prices to continue to rise.

• HHS eliminating vaccine recommendations so the U.S. can Make Polio Great Again.

• Farmers declaring bankruptcy while millions stand to lose their health insurance.

• Jimmy Kimmel suspended for commenting on Charlie Kirk but not “correctly.”
