Letter to the editor: Discussion, not protesting, can move America forward

The media often attributes the increases in coronavirus to “opening up” too early, President Trump’s rallies, people vacationing at beaches, etc. Hardly ever mentioned are the protests, which could cause spreading of the virus.

Thousands of people protest from the early hours until the middle of the night, many without masks, packed like sardines in a can walking side by side, chanting and sometimes hollering. We must realize that protesting can spread the virus. It is not gone. More people will get sick and die. Why not make it safer?

If our states or country can make laws to not open certain businesses, or make it mandatory to wear masks to reduce the spread of the virus, then why not be intelligent and make a law that protesting will not be permitted temporarily due to the coronavirus? We could replace protesting with individuals who can communicate by sitting down with other leaders to discuss unsettled issues instead of spreading the virus by being in large groups.

It is time to get our home, the United States of America, moving forward again. We can see in front of our eyes our children and families getting sick and possibly dying, and also destruction due to the unrest throughout our country. We have a lot of smart people who can resolve our problems and issues. Let’s use some common sense and do the right thing.
