Letter to the editor: Disturbing developments

Among so many things, here are two very disturbing recent news items:

The stable genius, in touting his Big Beautiful Bill, stated: “I have never seen a wind farm in China.” His ignorance is staggering; actually, maybe not if you’ve ever listened to his statements. If he actually ever read anything, he would know that wind power is the third largest source of electricity in China. In 2021, their capacity was 281 GW and climbing while the U.S.’s was 118 GW and will now stagnate under his “leadership.”

SCOTUS has failed us. The vast majority of illegal immigrants are not violent and dangerous (nor “eating the cats and dogs”). They risked their lives trying to get to this country to provide for their families and to escape the violence in their own country. SCOTUS, in their infinite wisdom, has now green-lighted sending immigrants to countries other than their home country, including South Sudan, a country the U.S. has listed as too dangerous to visit. If you have a conscience, you will find this absolutely unacceptable. One immigrant, who received a Purple Heart for his Army service in Panama in the late 1980s, self-deported to South Korea to avoid such an unconscionable decision. ICE should stick to deporting violent gang members.

I am 74 and lived through the turmoil of the ’60s. But I have never been more concerned for the future of our country, nor more ashamed of many of the actions being taken by this incompetent administration.

Long live Ukraine!
