Letter to the editor: Diversity, equity, inclusion
Diversity, equity, inclusion (DEI): All three are good to a certain extent, but when they are misused, they can be devastating.
In competition, statues for everyone for participation. Why try to excel? Oregon eliminated standardized tests in 11th grade as a requirement for graduation. Dropped because minorities had deficiencies? Some schools attack math as racist — what a stretch. So courses are watered down.
The military has been a melting pot for decades. Now it seems they are being taught that whites are supremacists and Blacks are being oppressed. Don’t you think this creates animosity among the races rather than togetherness?
President Biden, when he chose his cabinet, used DEI as his criteria. Homeland Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas has done little to secure our borders. There have been more than 8 million illegal border crossings since Biden took office and more than 160 suspected terrorists caught this year (plus many have evaded capture — in my opinion, future 9/11s). Our culture is changing with all the different factions (from 150-plus countries), mostly in a negative way.
Hamas’ cruel sneak attack on the the Jews in Israel has thousands of people in our country protesting for Hamas. Many Americans have been indoctrinated by radical elites, educators, organizations and the media to think in leftist lockstep. A prime example is the powerful “Squad” and others in Congress using their ideologies to try to change American values and culture and fight compromise. The result is a divided country in chaos with illegal immigrants, rampant crime, inflation and people in power trying to transform the nation to their philosophy.
