Letter to the editor: Do we really want the bad boy as president?

I was just going to sit back and not pay attention to the frothing of the mouth and political ads, but, oh well. Today’s Republican Party ignores “character,” convinced it has no value. Leadership values are tied to bullying and demeaning opponents and doing whatever Donald Trump wants to win. We must be isolationists, refuse aid to needy allies and protect the office of the president from rules, regulations, even laws. All of Trump’s unlawful deeds already committed are to be denied because that was Trump being Trump, like Peck’s Bad Boy. Lying is no big deal.

With this line of thinking, presidential candidates could include characters like Al Capone, whom Trump admires. Capone wiped out the Bugs Moran gang in one day (Valentine’s Day). How’s that for getting things done efficiently! He was very popular with Chicagoans. Or Lucky Luciano — set up the Five Families in New York. Good organizational skills. John Gotti Jr. had others do the kills so he was able to avoid jail for a long time — till he couldn’t.

And after all, wasn’t Jan. 6 just a Peck’s Bad Boy stunt? What a display of governing! Will Republicans move the Capitol to Las Vegas? Is this what we want, America? Can’t we just be the good old USA?
