The letter “America must come first” (March 9, TribLive) is another well written yet deceptive and disingenuous screed of pure MAGA propaganda.
The writer attempts to argue that America can’t send aid to Ukraine until our southern border is entirely secured. Of course he says this is all the Democrats’ fault. In reality, the Republican speaker of the House, Mike Johnson, is a fawning sycophant of Donald Trump.
Our southern border has nothing whatsoever to do with the plight of our allies in Ukraine. The Ukrainians are running out of ammunition while trying to defend their homeland from a merciless invasion by the Russian Federation. Trump must want the Ukrainians to lose. That’s all there is to it. I’m sure Trump would gleefully drop to his knees and shine the shoes of Russian ogre Vladimir Putin.
Why is that? Well, why did Trump “fall in love” with the murderous leader of North Korea? Why did he host the anti-democratic strongman of Hungary? Why does Trump continually praise tyrants around the globe? Go figure.
Recently, comprehensive immigration reform was drawn up by conservatives in the Senate. But the bill was stillborn because Trump called up Johnson, who declared the legislation “dead on arrival.”
Occasionally, MAGA apologists should actually face reality. In my opinion, Trump doesn’t want our border protected because that would be a “win” for President Biden, and he is OK with Ukrainian civilians and soldiers dying simply because of his pathetic “bromance” with Putin. Gutless Republicans will go along with any and all of the warped Dear Leader’s whims.
