Letter to the editor: DOJ, FBI influence on election

In 1939, FDR signed the Hatch Act into law. The purpose of the act was to protect federal workers from political influences so they could do their jobs effectively. The act also prohibited all federal employees from engaging in politics while on the job. Certain categories of federal employees are further restricted by the act because of their law enforcement duties.

Enter Hunter Biden’s infamous laptop computer in December 2019 when the FBI received a copy of the computer’s files. The Department of Justice and the FBI spent the next 10 months attempting to debunk any news about the damning contents of the Hunter Biden files. When the New York Post published the story in October 2020, the damage to the credibility of the story had already been done.

Studies have suggested that 14% of Democratic voters would not have voted for President Biden had they known about the laptop.

Election interference is a violation of the Hatch Act. I believe the DOJ and the FBI illegally and effectively influenced a presidential election in 2020.
