Letter to the editor: Don't shut down, America

Tribune-Review

As I witness another government shutdown, I contend that it is time to shut down the entire Trump regime. Remove President Trump from office and demolish both the White House and the Capitol building. Both have been forever sullied by Trump’s presence and his domestic terrorist assault of Jan. 6 and a do-nothing-but-harm Congress.

Break up Trump’s concrete slab Rose Garden. Bring on the Hispanic, Black, white, Asian and European construction workers to build a new Capitol building and new presidential residence. But, please, rename it. No more White House after Trump’s white nationalism has run amok.

Wake up, America! You have been too long asleep, too long shut down.

Banish White nationalism and a theocracy based on misinterpreted history and false notions of God’s will and God’s word, which too often are both men’s wills and men’s words, not God’s. Declare independence from Trump, his authoritarian regime in its entirety and all the evil he has drowned America in.

We must restore democracy. We must restart a republic. We must replace both parties, either with new parties or new representatives. These new representatives must be able to vote their consciences and vote on facts, not party lines. Voters must also abandon blind allegiance to parties. Vote for the best, most honest and most fact-seeking candidates, not those merely seeking power, fame, money or Armageddon.

Rise from your grave, America. Resurrect America. Restore our better angels. Do not shut down, America. Open your eyes, America. Let the light back in!
