Letter to the editor: Drivers should have freedom to choose vehicles

In the article “Thefts of charging cables pose yet another obstacle to appeal of electric vehicles” (June 12, TribLive), the author emphasizes the issues that consumers must weigh when purchasing electric vehicles (EVs), particularly concerning reliability and charging issues.

But soon there will not be room for individual preferences. The Biden administration’s rushed new EV transition will rob Americans of their purchasing freedoms, and the choice will not be up to consumers or auto dealers.

Instead, Americans should have the ability to make their own purchasing choices without government interference. If there is genuine demand for EVs, mandates simply aren’t necessary.

Recognizing that no single vehicle meets every person’s needs or budget, why not allow market forces to naturally guide decisions instead of Washington acting as an unwanted backseat driver?
