A big round of applause to the writer of the letter “Employers who hire the undocumented should be fined, jailed” (Aug. 13, TribLive). I couldn’t agree more. Try getting on a plane, flying to another country and seeking employment, and see if you don’t end up detained or possibly in prison.
Paying people cash under the table is a slap in the face to hard-working legal citizens who pay taxes and report their income but best of all willingly pay the inflationary prices of eating out.
Rules are made to be followed, not broken; these employers of illegal immigrants should be held accountable for their actions.
I have traveled to foreign lands and I am sympathetic to the hardships of other countries, both poverty and brutality; however, one of the main voter attractions of the last presidential race was the action of closing our borders and returning the illegal immigrants; what change of heart have we had since the election that puts this all to protest?
It has been said, who will pick the berries, who will tend the fields? We have a whole host of troubled American youth who need structure. We have overcrowded prisons and a whole host of folks anymore who just plain refuse to work, all while knowing that they are capable. Maybe if you have time to protest, you could find time to volunteer for these jobs.
As for the attorney offering pro bono assistance, I hope you also at some time help less fortunate citizens with documentation.
