Letter to the editor: Exposing harm of ECT

I want to alert your readers who may have had the procedure called ECT/electroshock that there is a national product liability suit around ECT devices. One of the experts for plaintiffs in this case is the NFL expert Dr. Bennet Omalu, who identified chronic traumatic encephalopathy (CTE) in NFL head injuries.

There are systemic risks both long-and short-term for electrical trauma that many patients were not warned of in consent, in addition to the repeated brain injuries resulting from ECT now proved in the California courts. I encourage anyone who has had ECT to contact the Baum/Wisner law firm in California to see if they qualify. There are articles on websites Mad in America, ectjustice.net and ectjustice.com.

We need to expose the harm of this unregulated practice that has greatly increased and has no FDA testing for safety or effectiveness. There is an increased risk for suicide after ECT because many cannot get the brain injury assistance they need. It seems better to protect a physician over meeting the needs of a patient.
