Letter to the editor: Faith is a force, not a farce

Tribune-Review

Regarding the letter “Religion and politics shouldn’t mix” (Nov. 11, TribLive): I appreciate the forum where opinions may be shared, even when multiple millions worldwide do not share the same views. The Bible to these people is not a “fantasy book” written by superstitious people. The early apostolic writers, disciples and followers of Christ believed so much in the truth and reality of scripture that they literally laid their lives upon it. It was to them the answer and instruction on how to live in this world.

The writer said “faith does not make it” regarding current events. Faith is a force, not a farce, of one’s belief for a change in current troubling events.

Politics involves people, and all people believe in something. Christian beliefs have had a place in the politics of this nation from its founding. Other beliefs have the freedom to be expressed as well. The separation of church and state was already addressed in the First Amendment: “Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof.” It is a freedom of religion, not a freedom from religion.

I agree with the writer that control, greed and power can be sought wrongfully in many areas of life, including religion and certainly politics. Guilt, fear and deception are often driving factors in these areas.

As for heaven and hell, I do believe they exist, and our own freedom of choosing will determine our final destination.

Respect to the writer, but it is difficult to separate yourself from what you truly believe.
