Letter to the editor: Falling coronavirus deaths
With a constant barrage of headlines about “x” number of new cases of covid-19, little is mentioned about how the number of deaths has fallen. A constant focus on cases with very little attention to the few deaths has conditioned people to equate cases with death. Nothing could be further from the truth.
I was amazed to read the article “1st new covid-19 death since May reported in Westmoreland County” (July 7, TribLIVE). Hundreds of cases have been reported, but here we have gone through the entire month of June with no loss of life.
I venture to say that at least 10 people die every day in Westmoreland County ranging in age from teenagers to folks 100 years old. Cancer, heart attacks, accidents, diabetes and a host of other ailments claim these lives every day to where at least 300 people died in Westmoreland County in June. Other than the family members and friends of these deceased being affected, no one else’s lives have been altered due to these natural deaths.
Yet here we have one death from covid-19 in the last five to six weeks and yet we have had so many businesses ruined and lives upturned because of insane edicts from the dictators Gov. Tom Wolf and Health Secretary Dr. Rachel Levine. When are the people going to revolt against this idiotic “new normal” that we are told we have to live with?
