Letter to the editor: Fettermans set good example
I was so sad to read of our lieutenant govenor’s wife, Gisele Fetterman, being verbally accosted while merely shopping (Oct. 12, TribLIVE). No one should be treated that badly. We in the Pittsburgh area especially appreciate how she and her husband John have worked hard to help those in need.
In light of clearly being wronged, the Fettermans chose to extend mercy to the woman who targeted Gisele. God bless them.
The book of Proverbs tells us, “A gentle answer turns away wrath, but a harsh word stirs up anger.” This year, we have been hearing many harsh words and people screaming at each other. Our country is very large and is made up of many different kinds of people. We can, if we choose, have different opinions and still have civil conversations. We can, if we choose, be kind and even forgiving when necessary. Even when someone is clearly in the wrong and hurts us, we can choose to extend mercy.
My prayer is that more and more of us will choose to let kindness rule our tongues and to extend mercy.
