Letter to the editor: Flag burning should be a crime
Questions that make you go hmmmm: On June 22, 1992, the U.S. Supreme Court in R.A.V. v. City of St. Paul unanimously ruled that “hate crime” laws banning cross burning and similar expressions of racial bias violated free speech rights, and rightly so.
How then is burning the United States flag by some nimrods not a bias against every veteran, every national guardsman and reservist who served under the flag and every true U.S. citizen?
Why is cross burning a crime and burning the United States flag not?
