From Jan. 1-5, UPMC Presbyterian did a lung transplant each day and more since. The Jan. 2 transplant was for my younger brother.

I constantly get emails and calls from the American Red Cross that it needs blood now, especially Type O Positive. Since I last donated blood on Jan. 10 (you can donate every 56 days for the Red Cross), I decided to donate blood March 15 at the donation center at 351 Harvey Ave. in Greensburg. To my surprise, they only do whole blood donations there the second and fourth Wednesday of each month. Why wouldn’t a blood donation center take people’s blood more often if there is really a need now?

Is the Red Cross wasting its time by sending emails and calling people to donate if its donation center is not open for whole blood donation more than two days a month?

Should the Red Cross reconsider accepting blood donations there?
