Regarding the article “Ed Gainey gets new job on Pennsylvania Gaming Control Board” (Feb. 6, TribLive): Couldn’t help but chuckle, and cry, about this announcement. So a mayor who for years came up with numbers for the city budget that had no basis in reality, according to the comptroller, is now on the gaming board? Look at the qualifications listed below. And people want to know why government is not to be trusted.

• Background investigation: A comprehensive check covering criminal history, financial stability and credit history is required for all applicants.

• Financial integrity: Applicants must be current on all financial obligations to the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania.

• Age requirement: Must be at least 21 years old.

Application process: Submission of personal history disclosures, proof of identification and fingerprinting.
